Desiring God's Will: Fearing His Response

He has set me apart for a great purpose. He has declared great plans that will not harm me. He knows my heart and my desires, but he also knows which ones line up with him and the ones that do not. He calls us to ask in prayer, seek his truth, and knock according to his will. All the prayers I pray go unanswered, all the truth I seek brings on conviction, and all the doors I knock on are left closed. Today, my heart is filled with fear, confusion, and frustration. I believe in the power of prayer, I believe in his truth, and I know doors can be opened, but when is it my turn to walk through the door(s)?

Does God give us anything we desire? No, but he will give us our desires when they first are shaped by a delight in him. To receive his promise, we must first meet the conditions attached to it: by loving Him above all else, then our desires will become what he desires for us. Our longing will be to conform our lives to his will.

Can we get anything we ask for in prayer? Life is not a blank check, and it is not without conditions. When our desires line up with his desires, when we obey and do what pleases him, then we can be sure that God will hear our prayers. Sometimes when there seems to be no answer it may actually be a delayed answer. Other times God my deny our request in order to give us something better than what we know to ask for.
